From: Charles Ulrich <ulrich@sfu.ca>
This track was recorded in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 25, 1984 (not Memphis as stated in the booklet). It is another solo from "Let's Move To Cleveland", played on the custom Strat.
Bassist Scott Thunes plays the vamp from Iron Butterfly's "Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida" (0:00-1:18). FZ quotes the opening bassoon line [or more?] from Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite Of Spring" (0:20-0:33). Thunes quotes the bugle call "Taps" (2:04-2:29). The title is misspelled "In-A-Gadda-Stravinksy" on some early copies.
FZ had attempted this Ivesian juxtaposition before. In Gothenburg, Sweden, on February 18, 1978, he divided the audience into several groups and had them sing "Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida", "Rite Of Spring", and Wagner's "Lohengrin" (cf. "Big Swifty" on Make A Jazz Noise Here) at the same time. Twenty minutes later, after the band had played several more songs, FZ quipped, "You guys are still supposed to be singing 'Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida' up there."
