Love of my life, I love you so
Love of my life, don't ever go
I love you only
Love, love of my life
(Love of my life)
Stars in the sky, they never lie
Tell me you need me, don't say goodbye
I love you only
Love, love of my life

"Love Of My Life" (Daani 101) Very much influenced by "Queen Of My Heart"
by Rene & Ray, this 1963 Frank Zappa co-composition (with Dave Aerni)
employing strong doo wop group backing.
|
According to Paul Buff of Pal Records, it was done by "a guy named
Dave Aerni. I remember recording it, Aerni was manager and probably found
Roman. Ron Roman was possibly Hispanic. Backing him are probably Johnny
Williams and Ronnie Williams, both great guitar players," also of the
Masters. "Ronnie and Kennie Williams were influential on Zappa.
Everything was connected with me, Aerni became a hanger oner and a buddy,
along with Zappa and Johnny Fisher. There was more done between me and
Zappa. Zappa lived in Ontario at the time, about three miles from Pal,
from approximately '61 through when he sold (the renamed) Studio Z in
1965. On "Love Of My Life," "that's Ray Collins of the Mothers on
falsetto. He had a song of my called Deseri, I used to do those things
and he and I wrote it."
|
Collins recalled that his lead voice was erased as Roman was better
known. Said Aerni about this recording, "I remember very little about that
period of my life. Paul, Frank, Ray, myself, and others spent so many night
and days in the Cucamunga studio that everything is now a blur. All of us
were involved in participating in the creation of songs, playing
instruments, and handling the recording equipment. "Love of my Life" was in
this blured mixture. I barely remember working with Frank on the chord
progression on the song, and I believe the words in the song. Ron Roman is
probably Frank Zappa or Ray Collins. Paul Buff's Pal Recording Studio was
one of the first multi-tracked recording studios in the world, and we had 5
tracks to record with. So the back-up group was any or all of us who
happened to be there. I believe it was one of the labels the studio had."
Note: Daani label gives Cucamonga address of the Pal Recording studio. >

Except for the Persuasions cover version, which sounds more like
"Eddie My Love" by the Teen Queens.
